Insulin lispro is a rapidly-acting insulin analog that has been genetically modified to be absorbed better and start working faster than naturally occurring insulin. Lispro protamine is an intermediate-acting insulin analog that has protamines. Protamines are small proteins added to insulin in order to help slow down its onset, as well as increase its duration throughout the day. When combined together, these two types of insulin analogs provide full day coverage against the normal daily fluctuations in blood sugar levels, such as between, during and after meals.
